Observation Area
An outdoor observation area facing the apron and runway is available for visitors to meet and greet friends and loved ones and to enjoy the outdoor, tropical climate of Mackay.
The area features:
- Public seating & tables
- Licensed to serve food & alcoholic beverages
- Smoking area
ATMs
Four ATMs are available in the terminal concourse. Two ATMs located in the Departures Lounge and two ATMs located at the arrivals end of the terminal, both providing access to all major cards and banks.
Recharging Facilities
Recharge facilities are available in the departure lounge. Handy desktop units are freely available to those who wish to recharge their phone, tablet or other electronic device.
Toilets
Public toilets (including facilities for particular needs people) are available in the Check-In, Arrivals Hall and Departures Lounge.
Showers are located within the Check-In toilet block.
Parent’s Room
Parents rooms are located at the check-in area and Departures terminal.
Trolleys and Luggage storage
Trolley bays are located throughout the car parks, in front of and inside the terminal building.

Accessible Parking
Dedicated disabled parking spaces are in a convenient location in the Short Term, Long Term & Covered Car Parks. These are clearly marked and are reserved for passengers with cars displaying a valid ‘disability’ card. An accessible pick-up & drop off area is located at the end of the terminal within the Taxi Zone end of the terminal featuring a wheelchair ramp.
The car must display a valid ‘disability’ card and the driver must stay with the vehicle at all times. If wheelchair assistance is required please contact the Customer Service Office on 0434 607 658, prior to arriving and they will be able to assist.The driver must remain with the vehicle at all times. Should the driver wish to assist the passenger into the terminal, yet wishes to drop them off in this area, it will be necessary to drop them off and park in short term. The Customer Service Officer will be more than willing to assist.
Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are available for use and can be accessed by contacting a Mackay Airport Customer Service Officer (CSO) on 0434 607 658. You may arrange for the CSO to bring the wheelchair to you or collect it at the CSO office, located next to the Virgin Australia Check-In counter.
Disability Access Facilitation Plan
The Primary Purpose of the Disability Access Facilitation Plan is to provide passengers with disability, carers and other parties with clear and easily accessible advice on how disability is managed at Mackay Airport. It provides information to support a total travel experience from reservation through to arriving at the intended destination.

Smoking Area
Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal, or within seven meters of an entry door. Mackay Airport has provided designated outside smoking areas located at:
- The baggage collection end of the terminal building
- In the outdoor Observation Area accessible from the Departures Lounge

Currency Exchange
Crown Currency is now operating at Mackay Airport & can be found in the check in area. Their friendly, experienced staff are able to assist you with all your money exchange needs and stock all of the major currencies.
